Roof, Cladding, and Structural Refurbishment Projects

PPM has successfully managed a series of roof, cladding, and structural replacement projects at various leisure centres operated by Parkwood Leisure within the Staffordshire Moorlands and High Peak Authorities. As part of our lifecycle management services, these projects, totaling £610,000 during 2020/21, have significantly enhanced the facilities.

Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre

Budget: £300,000
Programme: 5 months

The refurbishment at Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre encompassed multiple elements, including cladding and window replacement, installation of a new felt roof system, and new copings and roof lights.

The project utilised the Garland StressPly Evolution system, a high-performance elastomeric modified bitumen waterproofing membrane. This system offers exceptional tensile strength, tear and puncture resistance, and elongation properties due to its non-woven spun-bond polyester carrier reinforcement.

Additionally, the profiled metal roof was coated with a high-performance waterproofing system to ensure long-lasting durability.

New Mills Leisure Centre

Budget: £95,000
Programme: 3 months

The project at New Mills Leisure Centre aimed to economically resolve various roof leaks. This involved fully coating the metal sports hall roof with a 20-year waterproofing system. A gutter lining system was installed, providing a permanent leak prevention solution with a 25-year guarantee. Other tasks included felt patch repairs, window and coping replacements, and the removal of redundant roof cowls.

Brough Park Leisure Centre

Budget: £180,000
Programme: 10 weeks

At Brough Park Leisure Centre, significant structural repairs were needed due to the degradation of steel columns. Our engineers designed a steel over-plating system to reinforce the existing columns, ensuring structural stability. The project also involved the structural repair of all glulam beams, alongside window and flooring replacements, ducting, decoration, and tiling.
