Dereham and Breckland Leisure Centres: Overcoming Ground Contamination

Dereham Leisure Centre stands as a flagship, new-build facility offering a comprehensive array of wet and dry amenities. Strategically located in the heart of Dereham town centre, this state-of-the-art centre includes:

• A competition-standard indoor bowls hall
• An expansive, state-of-the-art fitness suite
• Conference facilities
• A six-court sports hall
• A café/bar
• Extensive changing facilities

The wet facilities feature a 25-metre, six-lane community pool, a teaching pool, and associated changing facilities. Despite its prominent city centre location, the construction of Dereham Leisure Centre encountered ground contamination challenges, which were effectively addressed to ensure minimal disruption to the project timeline and operations.

Breckland Leisure Centre And Waterworld

The Breckland Leisure Centre underwent a part refurbishment and extension to enhance its offerings. New facilities introduced to the centre include:

• An indoor bowls hall
• A fitness studio
• A full-size floodlit, synthetic multi-use games area (MUGA)

Additionally, the reception area, dry changing facilities, and café/bar area were expanded and modernised to enhance user experience. Throughout the project, various challenges arose, including the discovery of ground contamination during construction. However, diligent efforts were made to swiftly resolve these issues with minimal impact, ensuring that the centre remained fully operational throughout the duration of the work.

The development of Dereham and Breckland Leisure Centres showcases PPM’s capability to overcome challenges such as ground contamination while delivering exceptional leisure facilities. Despite encountering unforeseen obstacles, both projects were successfully completed, demonstrating PPM’s commitment to ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining operational continuity. These centres now stand as vital community assets, providing residents with access to high-quality leisure amenities.
